The Music Room is an expressive MIDI controller. Unlike keyboard MIDI controllers, The Music Room allows you to strum, slide, bend and drum naturally and expressively. With 8 dimensions of expressive control per note The Music Room is the most expressive MIDI controller available and supports the future of MIDI, MPE. Play carefully scanned drums and cymbals from Pearl, Ludwig, Sabian, Zildjian, DW and Gretsch. Play drums and our unique strumming instrument, the topu and our optionally fretless lead and bass instrument the kiriata. All these are integrated with the bundled copy of Bitwig 8-Track, the leading expressive audio workstation. Easily loop and record instruments from VR, select presets and launch clips. Been working on setting up a clear coat look in Unreal Engine to give the drum that more realistic look.
Ive been making various different types of drumkits we took references of at GH Drums. Ludwig, Pearl, DW and many more to come!
https://www.facebook.com/pg/acmieducation/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1220619264624244 Had a great time being a mentor for hothouse 2016! It was a great experience and the students were wonderful and keen to learn. Wasn't expecting to give a speech at the end but it was well fun all the same.
Apart of a new project! TheMusicRoomVR! "With a collection of unique virtual reality instruments and inspiring spaces, The Music Room will make you a multi-instrumentalist. Bundled with Bitwig 8-Track and launching in July for the HTC" Loki and myself have been chosen to be the mentors at ACMI's Hothouse program this year! We are teaching a select group of high school students how to make things for VR.
https://2015.acmi.net.au/acmi-channel/2016/meet-the-hothouse-2016-mentors/ So taking what we got from the photos for the pearl drum, the photogrammetry output and cross referencing with official tom sizes etc I was able to recreate the Pearl kit to size and at comfortable playing angles that feel natural to the musician using VR
So we've decided to take this to the next level and try and capture the most shiniest object out there: A drumkit and cymbals. Most of it did come out and there was certainly enough information there for me to go into blender and use simple geometry to create an accurate kit. We did discover we couldn't use the texture as the reflections of the place we took the photos from didn't match our environment.
So we did our research and set out to the Cherry Bar in Melbourne to capture the interior of the main stage where various famous artists have preformed. I worked on the front stage while Loki and an intern captured the back room. The darkness of the venue made the exposure time take longer so we were there for quite awhile. Once back I've put it into Agisofts Photoscan and detected the floor targets and its come out rather well compared to Thornbury. From here Ill export the mesh out and go over it in blender with simple geometry so I can project the texture on that.
So I'm learning photogrammetry with Loki for the next venture we are working on. It will be VR where we have to develop around certain framerates. As a result we've decided to try a new method called Photogrammetry where you take a whole bunch of photos equally spaced a part then the software matches pixels and cleverally figures out depth and positioning. Our first attempt is at the Thornbury theatre and turned out okay but not great. Turns out I didn't quite have the camera set correctly and certain areas have came out fuzzy or not at all.
Moving on from Wander into something new involving VR and music. More details soon.
Our game Wander made it over to GDC and Pax East this year with some remarkable results. We were awarded Most Innovative and Best Indie MMO! http://www.mmogames.com/gamearticles/mmogames-pax-east-2015-awards/ New trailer is up and blog post at the main website. http://www.wanderthegame.com/: Drew this up for a friend of mine who really loves Connor from Assassins Creed 3. One of those very rare times I draw a male character. He came up looking great!
Spent some time to finish off this artwork. I must say it looks very cool and quite comfortable in my style with this. Thought about adding extra cross hatching but stayed away from that for a change. Now its time to watch facebook butcher the quality.
Whisper - to speak or utter softly; to converse secretly or privately; a rumour. Any of which may put you on edge or it's something you share with someone near you to escape or enhance the moment you're in.They come from near far or from the guardian inside of us. Good or bad it does not matter, all should be heard and responded to. Celebrating 1500 posts at United Oceanic Gaming and about 3 years of Adminship there I drew this picture to basically brag about my achievements there haha Using the avatar I often play to be as inspiration.
New image I quickly sketched up today. Acorns have been hitting my house all day and maybe there's something behind it... Or is it just the wind? We don't have squirrels in Australia especially ones that wear hats!
created a simple timelapse video of my progress through the creation of this pinup image
